De manier waarop we reizen verandert snel. In 2025 kiezen steeds meer vakantiegangers voor rust, aandacht en beleving. Niet langer staat het zoveel mogelijk bezoeken van bestemmingen centraal, maar het écht ervaren van waar je bent. Deze verschuiving zie je terug in reisgedrag door heel Europa: van langere verblijven op één plek tot bewuster vervoer en meer tijd voor lokale ontmoetingen.
Het klassieke hoogseizoen verliest terrein. Reizigers wijken vaker uit naar voor- en naseizoenen zoals april, mei, september en oktober. Deze maanden zijn rustiger, betaalbaarder en bieden aangenamer weer. Ook stedentrips verplaatsen zich meer naar doordeweekse dagen, omdat reizigers de drukte willen vermijden en ruimte zoeken om op hun eigen tempo te ontdekken.
Daarnaast wordt de trein opnieuw populair. Overland reizen geeft rust, een natuurlijk reistempo en de mogelijkheid om onderweg het landschap te zien veranderen. Veel reizigers ervaren dit als ontspannender dan vliegen, en de reis zelf wordt weer onderdeel van de vakantie.
Waar vroeger de grote bezienswaardigheden de hoofdrol speelden, zijn vakantiegangers nu vooral op zoek naar authenticiteit en dagelijkse sfeer. Een regionaal marktje, een lokale bakker, een dorp met rustige wandelroutes of een kleine stad vol cultuur — het zijn juist deze plekken die in 2025 populairder worden.
Ook activiteiten verschuiven: mensen kiezen voor kleinschalige ervaringen zoals een kookworkshop, een wandeling met een lokale gids, een fietstocht door natuurgebieden of een avond in een buurtcafé. Het gaat minder om “afstrepen” en meer om verbinding.
Of je nu een treinreis maakt door Europa, een week in een rustige regio verblijft of een korte trip dicht bij huis plant: de trend is duidelijk. Vakantiegangers zoeken naar minder haast en meer betekenis. Door een stap terug te doen in tempo en te kiezen voor plekken waar je echt kunt landen, ontstaat er een vakantie die niet voorbij voelt zodra je thuiskomt.
